Step One:

First draw shapes for Mother Talzin's head, hands and torso. Keep your pencil lines nice and loose so you can easily erase any mistakes.

 Step Two:

Next add a little more detail to her face. Play around with the placement of her eyes, nose and mouth until you're happy where they are. Start adding parts of her outfit to your drawing.

 Step Three:

Now you can add even more detail! She has a very elaborate outfit so take your time and don't be afraid to erase any mistakes. You can also begin to draw in her hands and long fingers.

 Step Four:

Tighten up your pencil lines and make the drawing nice and clean so you can prepare to add color. You can even make copies of your finished pencil drawing to practice using different coloring media.

 Step Five:

I like to color with markers, but you can use anything you want -- crayons, colored pencils, or the computer! Mother Talzin has a pretty simple color palette: black, white and red! For this step I start out with grey markers for her skin and shadows.

 Step Six:

Next I add the red for her wardrobe. There are also a few areas of brown in her outfit too. Add the black ink lines after you're done coloring, so the ink won't bleed when it is touched with the wet marker. Wait until the markers are completely dry, then go over it with the ink outlines. It can be hard to get a nice, smooth line. Practice makes perfect! There is a lot of detail, so be patient and take your time. When you're done with inking, add some white pencil to lighten up certain areas, and thicker white paint for the final, strong, white highlights -- like the dots in the eyes, for example. Now you're done!
